LONDON, England – The British Boxing Board of Control named Fabio Wardley their Boxer of the Year at their awards ceremony on Sunday.

The WBO heavyweight champion, who fights Daniel Dubois on May 9, recorded impressive and dramatic stoppages of Justis Huni and then Joseph Parker in July and then October 2025 before being elevated to the status of champion when Oleksandr Usyk vacated the WBO title.

He beat to the award his fellow Britons Nick Ball, James “Jazza” Dickens, Moses Itauma, Ellie Scotney and Conah Walker.

“I’m very proud,” the 31 year old said, before making a point of crediting his trainers Ben Davison, Lee Wylie and, particularly, Robert Hodgins. “Me and Rob have literally started from the ground up.

“The first time I put on a pair of gloves that man laced them up for me, and now as a world champion he’s the guy to lace them up for me. This one’s for you, Rob.”

Davison was named The Board’s Trainer of the Year, and Wardley’s stablemate Itauma the Boxing Writers’ Young Boxer of the Year.

Wardley’s first title defence, against the 28-year-old Dubois, is at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England.
