LAS VEGAS – The drama-free cruise toward his first world title soared on Friday when Ryan Garcia weighed in at 146.5lbs for Saturday night’s WBC welterweight title fight versus belt holder Mario Barrios at T-Mobile Arena.
San Antonio’s Barrios, coming off back-to-back draws versus Abel Ramos and 46-year-old Hall of Famer Manny Pacquiao, weighed in at the limit of 147.0lbs for the DAZN pay-per-view.
The uneventful development eased concerns about California’s Garcia, 24-2 (20 KOs), who was fined $5,000 for a pre-fight weight check earlier this month and missed weight by 3.2lbs in 2024 to spoil his second shot at a world title, versus Devin Haney, in 2024.
That erratic training camp was punctuated by Garcia testing positive for the banned PED ostarine, changing his three-knockdown victory to a no-contest.
This time around, with Garcia’s father, Henry, returning as lead trainer, a more focused Ryan Garcia has emerged during camp and in press events as he heads to his fourth attempt to become a world titleholder.
