DETROIT – Franchon Crews-Dezurn remains a unified super middleweight titleholder following her rematch loss to heavyweight champion Claressa Shields on Sunday. And while the 38-year-old is willing to return to 168lbs, that’s not the only weight division in which she’s open to competing.
“I would love to get another fight. Try another weight class like coming up to heavyweight,” Crews-Dezurn said in the post-fight press conference. “Even though I’m a big girl, I try to transform and train properly for it.”
Crews-Dezurn has fought almost exclusively within the super middleweight limit since turning pro in late 2016, when she lost to Shields in their shared pro debut. For this rematch, she weighed in at slightly more than 174lbs.
“Maybe I’ll go down in weight,” Crews-Dezurn added. “I just want to try to keep the sport going as long as I can while I’m here – be an attribute, whether it's at middleweight, whether it’s at super middleweight or back at heavyweight. I just want to play my part to push women’s boxing forward, support Claressa. She’s done such amazing things.”
This is not the first time Crews-Dezurn has raised the idea of moving up or down from 168lbs. She told this reporter the same thing in December 2024. Back then, Crews-Dezurn just wanted seemingly any notable fight after a year in which she competed.
Sunday’s rematch with Shields was Crews-Dezurn’s first fight of 2026 after having just one bout in 2025.
“I would love to fight at least twice,” Crews-Dezurn said at the post-fight press conference. “Two more times this year or within the next year.”
