Former four time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield is planning to stick around. He wants to reclaim the world championship before turns 50-years-old. Holyfield came to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Space Combat. During the promotional appearance, he discussed the dominating heavyweight brothers, Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, who own four titles between the two of them. Holyfield thinks he can defeat either brother.
At age 48, a championship victory would help Holyfield achieve another accomplishment - becoming the oldest boxer in history to win a world title. Bernard Hopkins, age 46, recently broke the record when he scored a twelve round decision over Jean Pascal to capture the light heavyweight crown. Holyfield does state that his goal is not to break the record of Hopkins. His main concern is to win the heavyweight title.
"I'm going to become the undisputed world champion heavyweight before 50. They just have to give me the opportunity. I grew up with the teaching that there are no excuses. People believe them to feel better. No matter if you're smaller than your opponent. No matter the size or weight, or anything like that. Train and get over it. You do not have to be the best, you just have to be a little better than your opponent," said Holyfield, with a record of 44 wins (29 KOs), 10 losses, 2 draws and 1 no-decision.
"Unlike what many say, [the Klitschko brothers] are good fighters. What happens is, they never have opponents who get the best out of them. I don't know what would happen if they were pressed. We may never know how good they really are. I do not know what would happen if they were pressured. I have all of the tools to beat them. I'm not interested in the record breaking, I just want to get my title. If I do that, then yes I'll go quietly."
