Isis Sio, the 19-year-old women’s flyweight boxer seriously injured by a vicious knockout Saturday night in California, is being treated in the intensive care unit of Loma Linda University Health medical center, BoxingScene has learned.

ProBoxTV reported on its social-media channels Sunday that Sio, from North Dakota, is in a medically induced coma after being knocked out by Jocelyn Camarillo in the opening bout of ProBoxTV’s card at the Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino, California.

Sio, 1-3, was hurt by two body shots from Camarillo, and as she stepped back and covered, Camarillo pounced and slammed Sio with four head punches, causing an unconscious Sio to slump forward to the canvas.

Sio was seen convulsing on the stretcher as she was immediately wheeled out of the building to emergency care.

“It’s not good,” said an official briefed on Sio’s condition Sunday.

Sio fought after being stopped from a shot to the body in California on January 30 by Perla Bazaldua in Long Beach. California State Athletic Commission rules state that if a boxer has been knocked out they will be medically suspended for a period of a minimum of 30 days, decided by the ringside doctor. Sio competed 50 days following her stoppage in January.

Camarillo, 6-0, had never previously knocked out an opponent.

In an interview with video reporter Elie Seckbach after the fight and before Sio’s current status was known, Camarillo, 21, said, “I’m happy, but then also have that feeling [of] a little bit of guilt.”

Following learning of the news that her opponent had been placed in a medical induced coma, Camarillo posted online: "Lord Jesus, we come before you with faith and urgency, lifting up Isis [Sio] into your loving hands. Lord, you are the ultimate healer, the great physician, and we ask for you divine touch over her body in Jesu mighty name, amen."

At Friday's weigh-in, Sio was quiet and reserved as her trainer asked BoxingScene to take a photo of her stepping on the scale and facing off with Camarillo, who ended the fight in 1 minute, 18 seconds.
