Heavyweight Jared Anderson, in the midst of trying to revitalize his career after some troubling recent years in and out of the ring, has been confronted with another obstacle.
Anderson, 18-1 (15 KOs), who had been scheduled to face Solomon Dacres on the undercard of the May 9 Fabio Wardley-Daniel Dubois main event in Manchester, England, has been pulled from the fight after suffering a torn biceps.
The news was first reported on Saturday’s DAZN streaming broadcast of the Jarrell Miller-Lenier Pero card from the Fontainebleau Las Vegas.
Not long ago, Anderson – now 26 – was considered one of the hottest prospects in the heavyweight division. (He was selected BoxingScene’s 2021 Prospect of the Year.) Traffic arrests in 2023 and 2024 didn’t seem to slow his progress in the ring, but a knockout at the hands of Martin Bakole in August 2024 most certainly did. He has fought just once since, winning a 10-round unanimous decision over an out-of-his-depth opponent in Greece’s Marios Kollias.
Dacres wouldn’t exactly have been a quantum leap forward, but just getting back into the ring without incident would have been a positive sign for Anderson – a native of Toledo, Ohio, now fighting out of Houston. Instead, he faces an extended recovery (typically three months to a year, depending on the severity of the injury) and a hard reset of his fight timeline.
There was no word about which arm Anderson injured, but BoxingScene will continue to report on this story as more information becomes available.
