LAS VEGAS – Sebastian Fundora imitated himself, the 6-feet-6 WBC junior-middleweight champion taking a tall drink of water and then flashing a thumbs-up to the question of “How do you feel?”
By stepping on the scale Friday at MGM Grand at 153.6lbs, Fundora, 23-1-1 (15 KOs), moved on toward his third title defense Saturday night in a Prime Video/PPV.com main event versus former unified welterweight champion Keith Thurman.
The 37-year-old Thurman, 31-1 (23 KOs), weighed in at 152.6lbs, a slight difference apart from the massive six-plus inches of height and 11 inches in reach he has to bridge in the title bout.
Thurman on Thursday is returning to a prominent title fight for the first time since 2019, when he suffered his lone defeat to Manny Pacquiao, also at MGM Grand.
The arena additionally hosted Thurman in March 2015, when he won the first PBC main event versus Robert Guerrero, whose lightweight son, Robert, is in a lightweight bout in the second bout on Saturday’s card.
Thurman and the elder Guerrero appeared at a Thursday event to collect commemorative PBC belts for the occasion.
Thurman won that fight and went on to defeat champions Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter.
“This is the same Keith Thurman. Don’t let the age fool you. Don’t let the layoff fool you. This is Keith Thurman,” TGB Promotions head Tom Brown said.
