Yuriorkis Gamboa and Guillermo Rigondeaux now have opponents - and a new venue - for their May 30 co-headlining card.
The two leading Cuban boxers of their generation will both fight on a card that was originally scheduled to take place in Miami, but now will be held at the War Memorial Auditorium in nearby Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Gamboa, 30-5 (18 KOs), will face Alexander Espinoza, 20-5-1 (9 KOs), in an eight-round junior welterweight fight, while Rigondeaux, 23-3 (16 KOs), is set to take on Jose Velasquez, 34-13-3 (24 KOs), also in an eight-round bout.
Gamboa, a former unified featherweight champion, hasn’t fought in over four years and is coming in on a three fight losing streak to Isaac Cruz, Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis. His last win was in 2019, when he knocked out Roman Martinez in two rounds. He is now 44 and will be facing an Ecuadorian opponent who is nine years his junior but is also on a losing streak of his own, having lost his last two.
Rigondeaux, 45, has won his last three but hasn’t fought since November of 2024, when he knocked out Dannis Aguero Arias in the first round. Velasquez, 36, is coming off a second round stoppage to Felix Parrilla in March.
