Happy with his work at middleweight, Carlos Adames this week announced his desire to compete as a super middleweight in the future.
The 31-year-old successfully defended his WBC middleweight title with a unanimous decision win over Austin Williams on Saturday and now feels his work at 160lbs is done. It is a weight he can still make, Adames maintains, yet the man from the Dominican Republic has decided to seek new adventures elsewhere.
“I make 160 very easily, but I’ll make 168 shake even more – here I come,” Adames posted on social media. “Tell 168 that ‘Bronco’ has arrived. There were many names that ran from 160 and moved up in weight, but now I’m going to catch up to them.”
In total, Adames, 25-1-1 (18 KOs), competed as a middleweight for five years. During that time, he compiled a record of 5-0-1. The one draw came against Hamzah Sheeraz, who now competes at a super middleweight, while his five victims were as follows: Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Juan Macias Montiel, Julian Williams, Terrell Gausha and Austin Williams.
At super middleweight, Adames will presumably look to chase WBC champion Christian Mbilli, Armando Resendez, the WBA champion, and the winner of the IBF title fight between Osleys Iglesias and Pavel Silyagin on April 9. The WBO title is currently vacant.
