British heavyweight Fabio Wardley will now fight Australia’s Justis Huni on June 7, following the withdrawal of Jarrell Miller, his original opponent.

The fight, scheduled for 12 rounds, will still happen at Portman Road, home of Wardley’s beloved Ipswich Town Football Club, and is no more or less significant than the bout it has replaced. In fact, when announced this evening by Queensberry Promotions, they used the tagline, “New opponent. Same mission.” That seems about right.

Huni, 12-0 (7), is a 26-year-old from Queensland whose best win is a 10-round decision over Kevin Lerena in 2024. Wardley, meanwhile, has fought the better calibre of opposition to date and was last seen stopping Frazer Clarke inside a round back in October. He is currently 18-0-1 (17) as a pro.

Also announced for the June 7 card is a cruiserweight fight between Mike Perez, 30-3-1 (21), and Steven Ward, 15-3 (5).

Now 39, Perez is a former world title challenger from Cuba who won a Prizefighter tournament, at heavyweight, some 14 years ago. He has, since losing against Alexander Povetkin in 2015, campaigned solely as a cruiserweight and has won his last eight fights.

Ward, on the other hand, is a 35-year-old from Belfast who last time out stopped Tommy McCarthy inside six rounds. He appears to have turned a corner in his career and is known to fans as “The Quiet Man”.
