News about the future of super middleweight contender Edgar Berlanga will likely be revealed soon.
There has been speculation that the 28-year-old Berlanga, 23-2 (18 KOs), could join the ranks at Zuffa Boxing.
After all, he is managed by Keith Connolly, who marshaled Conor Benn’s recent transition from Matchroom to Zuffa, which has led to Eddie Hearn saying he will not work with the manager for the foreseeable future.
“Keith and Eddie, [are] not really like they were,” said Berlanga’s coach, Marc Farrait. “They were buddies. I don’t know how much of a buddy system they got now. But, yeah, you should be hearing something real soon with Edgar. We’re going to try to get two fights this year. He’s been training. This is the first time he’s in the gym like that. He’s at actually 188 pounds, which is unreal. He usually comes in way over that. So he’s in the gym every day. And he was with Najee [Lopez] for this camp [against Manuel Gallegos]. He’s been training, but you should hear some news pretty soon. Like in the next week or so. So maybe those [Zuffa] rumors are true.”
Berlanga, who lives in Florida, has not fought since a fifth-round stoppage to Hamzah Sheeraz in July. His other loss came to Canelo Alvarez, via decision, in September 2024.
