Jasmine Parr of Australia needed just 71 seconds to halt Thailand's Jittamat Phomta – after gaining some help from her mother before the fight began.
The 22-year-old junior bantamweight contender, 7-1 (2 KOs), had forgotten to take her mouthguard to Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion which delayed her by several minutes. Thankfully, Parr’s mother was hand to go and retrieve one from the fight hotel. After the victory over Phomta, 9-10 (6 KOs), Parr called out her Aussie compatriot Shannon O’Connell for a rematch. O’Connell defeated Parr, who is now trained by Paul Briggs, on a split decision over eight rounds in December.
Also appearing on the prelim section of the Sam Goodman-Cesar Vaca card: Lightweight Jason Fawcett, 10-2 (2 KOs), outpointed Alex Lual, 5-3 (1), on a majority vote after six; welterweight Dharringarra Trewhella, 5-0 (2 KOs), halted Kaliova Tahika, 2-1 (2 KOs), in three; debutant Salvatore Gattuso took care of Nikesh Prasad, 1-4-1, in the opening round of their cruiserweight clash; and junior lightweight Tyrell Adams, 3-0 (1 KO), decisioned the 3-7 Roy Gavera over four.
